February 17 – 26, 2025 (10 days)
Set sail on an unforgettable 10-day skippered catamaran cruise through the British Virgin Islands, exploring iconic destinations like Tortola, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Cooper Island.
From the white sands of Cane Garden Bay to the hidden pirate caves of Norman Island, every stop offers crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and authentic Caribbean charm.
With steady trade winds, calm waters, and short island hops, the BVI offers ideal conditions for a luxury private catamaran sailing holiday—perfect for snorkeling, paddleboarding, and soaking in the tropical beauty of the Caribbean.
All guests will be welcomed on board AKUA AMINATA between 5:00 and 6:00 PM with a refreshing cocktail. The skipper will introduce the sailing itinerary, safety procedures, and living arrangements on the catamaran. Afterwards, we will do some shopping for the next few days and head to the marina together for dinner.
After breakfast, we sail south across the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Norman Island. The attraction of this day is snorkeling the famous “Caves” – submerged lava tubes alive with coral and tropical fish. The clear waters here are legendary. When the sun dips low, we will pop into the quirky floating bar Willy T for cold drinks and the classic ladder-jump into turquoise water.
We sail onward to Peter Island, a private island known for its stunning, sheltered bays. Rounding the southern edge of Norman Island, we drop anchor at the tranquil Deadman’s Bay on the island’s north side. This hidden gem features powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling, where you might spot schools of small fish gliding through the seagrass – and, if you’re lucky, catch sight of a tarpon or two. Onshore, the bay’s name echoes the area’s haunting past, with old graves said to belong to shipwrecked sailors or pirates.
This morning we sail to Cooper Island. En route we’ll make a snorkeling stop at the wreck of the RMS Rhone to dive among the ghostly anchors and coral-encrusted hull. In the afternoon we make a stop for a special visit to small, eco-conscious craft brewery located at Cooper Island Beach Club, that can only be reached by boat. In the evening, you have the option to hike the scenic Sunset Loop trail for breathtaking views across the surrounding islands or relax on deck with a chilled drink in hand, as the sky erupts in vivid color over the calm sea
After breakfast, we hoist the sails toward the southern tip of Virgin Gorda. The morning is devoted to exploring The Baths National Park — the geological wonder with a dramatic shoreline maze of massive, smooth boulders forming sea pools, tunnels, and quiet sandy nooks. A short coastal trail leads us to Devil’s Bay, where the water is calm, clear, and ideal for a midday swim. In the afternoon, we continue to Spanish Town to discover artisan boutiques or take a short ride to the Copper Mine ruins, perched above crashing surf. Dinner tonight features local seafood or spicy island dishes in a cliffside or harbor-view
Today we make our way up the island through the Gorda Sound passage. Optional snorkeling along “The Indians” or around small islets known as the Dogs. We arrive in North Sound by midday and moor near one of the famed harborside resorts. In the afternoon, sipping something tropical on a dock we will admire views of Saba Rock. Evening offers a choice between a laid-back yacht club dinner or lively beachside cocktails as the sunset bathes the Sound in golden light.
Setting out early, we head across the open sea to reach Anegada—a coral atoll unlike the other, mountainous Virgin Islands. As we approach, the ocean shifts to a palette of brilliant aquas and greens. We anchor near Loblolly Bay, home to one of the island’s most picturesque beaches and a handful of relaxed, palm-shaded bars. In the afternoon, beachcomb or snorkel the calm shallows, or ride to Cow Wreck Beach for a drink and sea views. For wildlife lovers, a dinghy ride to Flamingo Pond may reveal wading birds in vivid pink. The day ends with a feast of grilled Anegada lobster, which is local specialty, usually served with garlic butter and cold beer at a seaside shack.
We sail back south through Sir Francis Drake Channel to the island of Jost Van Dyke. We anchor near White Bay, where sugar-soft sand and vibrant beach bars create a lively but laid-back atmosphere. Grab a Painkiller cocktail from the bar that made it famous, take a dip, or stroll through small local shops. If time allows, a short trip north brings us to the Bubbly Pool—a natural sea-fed basin that churns like a hot tub when waves roll in. The night can be as festive or peaceful as you choose: dance at Foxy’s or watch the stars from the deck.
Today we return to Tortola. We can anchor for lunch at Salt Island or Cooper on the way if desired, but often head straight to Tortola’s North Sound to enjoy one more beach day. In the afternoon we sail into Cane Garden Bay, Tortola’s iconic beach village. Spend the evening in Cane Garden’s lively scene – listen to live reggae at a beach bar, stroll the crescent beach or swim in the gentle surf. Alternately, venture around to the quieter eastern side of Tortola and explore Smuggler’s Cove, a hidden crescent bay lined with starfish and fringed by palm trees.
Check-out from the catamaran is around 10:00 AM, giving you plenty of time to get to the airport and catch your flight home.
